Administration

Mr. Mike Perez was the Principal of Grassfield High School before coming to NHCS. He spent over 30 years as an educator with Chesapeake Public Schools. Mr. Perez was a teacher for seven years, served as Assistant Principal for eight years, and has spent the last 15 years as a principal. Mr. Perez received a Bachelor of Science from Old Dominion University in 1993 and a Master of Science in Education Administration in 1999, also from Old Dominion University. As a lifelong learner, Mr. Perez is currently continuing his education as a doctoral candidate at Regent University. He is also an avid performing and recording musician


Mrs. Williams began her educational career with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in 2006. After many years away from home, Mrs. Williams moved back to Wilmington in 2012, where she taught with Columbus County Schools before transferring to New Hanover County Schools in 2016. She has served as an English instructor, department chair, and Dean of Students at Hoggard High School. Mrs. Williams is a member of the 2022-2023 NHCS Emerging Leaders Program, and currently serves as a pathway partner for current cohort members.
Mrs. Williams believes in the power of uniting stakeholders for the benefit of all community members, especially students, and proudly works towards creating meaningful, long-lasting relationships for all.

Assistant Principal
Dr. Amy Callahan-Hayes began her career in 1999 with Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia and later joined Brunswick County Schools in North Carolina. Most recently, she served as Assistant Principal at Laney High School in New Hanover County. Her experience spans roles such as special education teacher, instructional coach, and school administrator at both elementary and high school levels. She holds a B.A. in Elementary Education from Bethany College, an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from George Mason University, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from UNC Wilmington. Dr. Callahan-Hayes is excited to join Ashley High School, where she looks forward to building meaningful relationships and supporting a positive, inclusive school culture.

Assistant Principal
Ms. Sheesley began her career with New Hanover County Schools almost 30 years ago. She has served as an assistant principal at Williston Middle School and was a Special Education and ELA teacher at Myrtle Grove Middle School. She received a Bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University and a Special Education license from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. She received a Master’s degree in Executive Leadership with an add-on license in School Administration from Gardner Webb University.
