Ashley is less than 5 miles to Carolina Beach, so, we are truly a school focused on  ocean safety and marine life.  Many of our clubs and courses are dedicated to beach environmentalism as well as marine biology.  Ashley High School is home to the Marine Science Academywhich is a partnership with UNCW that allows students to study college level oceanography and biology, and which requires students to participate in internships through UNCW and CFCC.  Ashley students are also able to take dual enrollment classes through Cape Fear Community College. In addition, students have a wide range of Advanced Placement classes to choose from as well as advanced level Career Technology programs, like Electrical Apprenticeships, small motor and outboard systems, as well as Drafting, Engineering, and Design courses. Eugene Ashley High School offers the AP Capstone diploma.  Ashley is also a large Fine Arts school, focusing on our award winning Theatre and Music programs.  Ashley is connected to the Minnie Arts Center, the county's premiere production.

Fun Facts about Ashley High School:

Noteable Ashley Alumni are: Alex Highsmith (seen in some of these photos, retiring his AHS jersey), a linebacker for the Pittsburgh Steelers (and his mom is one of our favorite math teachers!).  Trevor Kelley, who was a star baseball player when he was here at AHS, now has many MLB credits (Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Seattle Mariners just to name a few)!

It appears in several One Tree Hill episodes, as well as TV movies Teen Spirit and Red Zone and the film, The Marc Pease Experience, starring Ben Stiller, Anna Kendrick, and Jason Schwartzman (one of Ashley's own teachers has a cameo feature in the movie!).  The TV show, Eastboard & Down filmed parts of an episode from its fourth season in the Ashley gym and around the outside of the school.
